"What.. How… I don't understand how could this have happened? He was
fine, Just a little smoke inhalation. Nothing he hasn't had before.
DR Brackett released him to come back to work, didn't even have him
stay overnight."

"Chet, DR Brackett said symptoms may be delayed 24-48 hr. in some
cases, this is what happened."

"But why this time? We have all had smoke inhalation and never had
any problems later"

"I don't know Chet" Mike shakes his head " I guess we need to wait
for the autopsy report to know for sure"

Mike gets up and walks over to the couch where Roy and JoAnne are
sitting.

"Roy, how are you doing? Can I get you anything?"

"Mike, no but thank you."

"OK just let me know"

Hank turns, as there is a knock on the door.

"Dixie, come in"

"Thanks Hank." She walks over and sits a the chair next to the
couch "Roy, Johnny wanted me to tell you not to blame yourself and to
remember that he told you once that if he went first that he would be
watching you from the mountain"

"Dixie, did he suffer long?"

"No guys he didn't, He called a squad when he woke up yesterday
afternoon and couldn't catch his breath, by the time they arrived he
was unconscious. They started him on 100% O2 and transported him."
Dixie gets up and walks to the window "He came to for a few minutes
in the treatment room and asked me to pass on that message and to
tell you all that you were the best friends he ever had. He lapsed
into a coma and passed away from pulmonary edema brought on by the
chemicals in the smoke."

Dixie stops talking and starts to cry.

"Come on Dixie, Lets sit down" Mike says putting his arm around her
and leading her back to the chair.

"Thanks Mike, I need to finish this. Johnny told me once when he was
a patient that, though he didn't go to church he believed in the
Father and the Son and that he knew that they loved him. He said he
became a firefighter and a rescue man because he wasn't afraid to
face the Devil and he was no stranger to the rain." Dixie smiles as
looks at Roy" Did you know that Johnny has a beautiful singing voice?
He used to `sneak' out of his room and go to pediatrics and play with
the kids and sing to them. We all knew he did it and that's why he
was always put on the 4th floor if possible."

"Johnny could sing? Man I wish I had known that" Chet complains

"Chet why do you think he never said anything about it. He didn't
need the Phantom to bother him about it. He sang for fun and pleasure"

Everyone sat in silence for a moment, remembering the Johnny they all
thought they knew.

The End

Go Rest High On That Mountain
Written and Sung by Vince Gill

I know you life on earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the Devil
You were no stranger to the rain.

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to Heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son

Oh how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve
I wish I could see the Angels faces
When they hear you sweet voice sing

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to Heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son

Go to Heaven shoutin' Love for the Father and the Son
